With the launch of the Vivo X300 Ultra on May 6, Vivo is making a calculated bet: that smartphone photography can evolve from convenience to capability.
At its core is a ZEISS-backed imaging system built around multiple focal lengths 14mm ultra-wide, 35mm standard, and 85mm telephoto each stabilized and tuned for distinct shooting scenarios. This isn’t new in isolation, but Vivo’s execution aims to mimic the versatility of dedicated camera systems.
The more ambitious move is modularity. Optional external telephoto lenses extend reach up to 200mm and 400mm equivalents, effectively turning the device into a hybrid between a smartphone and a compact camera setup. It’s a bold idea, but one that trades convenience for control.
Beyond imaging, the hardware is designed to support sustained use. A 6600mAh battery paired with 100W wired and 40W wireless charging targets long recording sessions, while support for high-bitrate 4K video positions the device squarely at content creators.
Software longevity also gets attention. Running OriginOS 6, Vivo is committing to up to seven years of updates an area where Android OEMs have historically lagged.
